FAQ

I’d love to work for Random Acts! Are the positions paid and/or full-time?

That’s great that you want to work for us! All of our positions are actually volunteer roles, and they’re all part-time. We know that people often have other full-time roles, as well as family and friends that they occasionally like to see, so we try to be flexible with time commitments. It’s likely that you’d need to be able to commit between 2-10 hours per week, however that depends on both the role you apply for and what programs/events we’re currently working on. The actual hours that you choose to work during can be very flexible; if you do your best work at 3am (and who doesn’t?!) then you’re absolutely able to work at 3am. Although we’d recommend that you do actually sleep at some point.

Do you have to live in the United States to join the staff?

No, we’re international! We don’t have any offices (which means no cleaning our desks at the end of the day!), so you can live anywhere and apply, as long as you have regular and reliable access to the internet. The only positions that have any geographic restrictions are our Regional Representative roles, as we require our Reps to actually live in the regions they represent!

I’m still in high school at the minute, but I really want to make a difference; can I apply?

We prefer our volunteers to be over the age of 18, and ideally we’d like for people to have experience in the role they’re applying for. That doesn’t mean you can’t make a difference though! You can get in touch with your Regional Representative to see if there are any events or meetups in your area, or you can contact us about doing your own act of kindness.

I’d love to be an intern for Random Acts, how do I get some information on signing up?

Unfortunately we don’t currently have any internships, graduate schemes, or work experience programs. As we’re run by volunteers and don’t have any offices, it’s not something that we’re able to support at the moment. It’s something we’d like to set up in the future though, so watch this space!

I’m a really big fan of Misha Collins; if I joined Random Acts would I get to meet him?

The honest answer is no (sorry!). Misha’s a pretty busy guy and, as we don’t have any offices, it’s difficult for him to drop in for a coffee…

Can I apply for a role even if you don’t have any vacancies listed?

Although we love hearing from you all, if we don’t currently have any vacancies listed, then we won’t be accepting any applications for any roles. The best thing to do is keep an eye on this page and social media for alerts about when we post vacancies. That doesn’t mean that you can’t get involved though, as we love it when people start getting more active in promoting kindness in their local communities. Head over to our forum or contact your Regional Representative to get started.

I want to start a Random Acts division, club, or chapter. How do I do this?

We’re really sorry, but for legal reasons we can’t currently allow anyone to create a Random Acts branded division, club, or chapter. If you would like to participate in our events and activities as part of a school group, you can do so by partnering with an existing kindness club at your school. You would still be able to apply for funding for acts and participate in activities like AMOK together, you just can’t use our name or brand.

Questions?

If you have any questions about joining the Random Acts team, just email hr@therandomact.org or tweet @RandomActsHR. Thanks!
